Disclaimer: I’m well aware of when the book was written。 I was excited when I first started reading this book。 Carnegie has a compelling way of delivering his points - short, dramatised stories that give you little hits of dopamine。 In terms of the actual principles, many of them are great for sure。 The fact that the stories were of average people made things more relatable too。 But as I progressed, the narrative started to feel very repetitive and somewhat condescending。 I understand that this Disclaimer: I’m well aware of when the book was written。 I was excited when I first started reading this book。 Carnegie has a compelling way of delivering his points - short, dramatised stories that give you little hits of dopamine。 In terms of the actual principles, many of them are great for sure。 The fact that the stories were of average people made things more relatable too。 But as I progressed, the narrative started to feel very repetitive and somewhat condescending。 I understand that this book is a product of its time and the layering of all those anecdotes make the principles convincing for many。 I was hoping for more theory on human behaviour and why these principles are so effective。 But I can definitely appreciate that the book was one of the first of its kind and paved the way for generations of individuals with a hunger for self-development。 Also found it funny how he clearly applied some of his principles during the writing of this book, definitely made me chuckle at times。 。。。more

If I have to read ONE BOOK in my life, then this would be the book。 A life skill to excel。 At times your intention is good, but the way can be better

A great book to re-evaluate your mindset and how you react to and treat others。 Something I plan to keep on my bookshelf and read again every couple years。

By the standards of a 1950s business man with his 1950s housewife living their beautiful, American, caucasian life, this book is 5 stars。But by any other standard it just doesn’t suffice。 Most of the ideas are timeless: empathy, listening more and talking less, giving constructive feedback, employing tact and strategy to find favorable outcomes and avoiding arguments。The examples are all relics of a white males world。I’d love to read a “modern” version of this book。

This should be mandatory reading for every human。 The world would be a much better place if everyone read this book。。。

A classic self-help book that surprisingly stands the test of time。 The advice given in this book is so simple yet so easy to forget, ignore or find excuses for。 Throughout the entire book I found myself exclaiming "that makes a lot of sense! how come it never crossed my mind before"?I just finished this book and already, I feel more confident in engaging with people。 But I know that I have to look at the passages I highlighted every now and then because it's easy to forget some of these simple, A classic self-help book that surprisingly stands the test of time。 The advice given in this book is so simple yet so easy to forget, ignore or find excuses for。 Throughout the entire book I found myself exclaiming "that makes a lot of sense! how come it never crossed my mind before"?I just finished this book and already, I feel more confident in engaging with people。 But I know that I have to look at the passages I highlighted every now and then because it's easy to forget some of these simple, yet practical principles。 。。。more

dnf at 45% I felt like most of this book was common sense and tbh。。 a waste of timeFor example there is a whole chapter on how smiling will make people like you He summarized each chapter with a singular point and after I decided to dnf I read a summary of all the points and found that way more useful

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I like the real-world examples。 Many of the concepts in the book are very simple, but are practical。 I definitely want to implement these concepts and hopefully it will make me a better individual。

Some of it seemed obvious but at the same time。。。 how many people DON'T do some of these things。In no way should you be a pushover or change your beliefs on a whim to please people。。。 but。。。 simply pausing, listening and letting the other person go first - finding a common thread/ground can really go a long way。Everyone has the "me me me disease" and everyone wants to look good - so giving someone the chance to do that can really give you a better chance at being heard when it's your turn。 Some of it seemed obvious but at the same time。。。 how many people DON'T do some of these things。In no way should you be a pushover or change your beliefs on a whim to please people。。。 but。。。 simply pausing, listening and letting the other person go first - finding a common thread/ground can really go a long way。Everyone has the "me me me disease" and everyone wants to look good - so giving someone the chance to do that can really give you a better chance at being heard when it's your turn。 。。。more

Was fun to read。 Since all the evidence was anecdotal it wasn't always so convincing but it was entertaining and positively vibed。 The principals are somewhat cliche but the book is a good reminder to keep them in mind。 Was fun to read。 Since all the evidence was anecdotal it wasn't always so convincing but it was entertaining and positively vibed。 The principals are somewhat cliche but the book is a good reminder to keep them in mind。 。。。more

Well I began with thinking this was common sense but I was impressed by the second half。 I appreciated that many strategies could also be applied to parenting。 I wish I had read this in high school。 I choked at a couple interviews back then。 I'll recommend it to my kids in a couple years。 I'm always telling them "you catch more flies with honey"。 Well I began with thinking this was common sense but I was impressed by the second half。 I appreciated that many strategies could also be applied to parenting。 I wish I had read this in high school。 I choked at a couple interviews back then。 I'll recommend it to my kids in a couple years。 I'm always telling them "you catch more flies with honey"。 。。。more

This book has a lot of good information for how to get along with people in work and every day life。 However, there were some instances where it just wasn’t applying properly to modern day times or the nuances of my current job。 Still very helpful and informative overall though。 :)

I’ve always found this book and its title upsetting。 After having a few good books about human relations, communication and leadership pointing in this direction, I eventually went for it。 And reluctantly quite liked it, despite the repulsive title。 Most chapters ended in a manner that felt self-explanatory and super-obvious, which I guess is a good receipt in terms of points well made。 I will definitely bring this with me moving forward, although it’s more a matter of hoping to become less blun I’ve always found this book and its title upsetting。 After having a few good books about human relations, communication and leadership pointing in this direction, I eventually went for it。 And reluctantly quite liked it, despite the repulsive title。 Most chapters ended in a manner that felt self-explanatory and super-obvious, which I guess is a good receipt in terms of points well made。 I will definitely bring this with me moving forward, although it’s more a matter of hoping to become less blunt in my style of communication, rather than “winning friends”。 Any kind of reduced friction in my daily life is a win。 。。。more

A compilation of anecdotes。10% of principles and the rest just anecdotes。I do not recommend this book at all。I gathered very few original insights。
